WHAT IS A DRONE?
An unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as a drone and also referred by several other names, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard.
The flight of UAS’s may be controlled either autonomously by onboard computers or by the remote control of a pilot on the ground or in a vehicle.

WHERE AND WHAT CAN YOU FILM?
- Flights can take place up to 400 feet AGL (above ground level).
- You must maintain “line of sight” of the drone.
- You must obtain a waiver through the FAA to fly in controlled airspace.
- No flying in National Parks.
- The law restricts drone pilots regarding operation over the public. Specifically the law enforces FAA rules and bans reckless use. Moreover it prevents drones from invading privacy making it illegal to film someone on their own property without first obtaining permission from the property owner.
DIGITAL MEDIA & TECHNOLOGY
Real estate agents and home inspectors are always looking for innovative ways to keep their clients informed. One of the latest tools in the home buying and selling process is drones. Drones allow aerial shots and a variety of views of the property, providing an added benefit to real estate transactions with beautiful high-resolution imagery that simply cannot be acquired with other aerial platforms. Real-time camera control, live camera view, precise GPS drone stabilization allows us to capture larger-than-life low-light imagery never thought possible on a flying platform. The visual advantages of drones have yielded the greatest results, and truly shape the way that luxury homes are presented on the MLS and on agent’s websites.

The average flight time per battery is about 25 minutes. You need to allow time to take off and land, which gives you about 15 minutes of filming per half hour of flight time.

EXPERIENCE AND SAFETY
Despite the FAA regulations, the most critical elements in drone operation are safety and the remote pilot’s experience. This not only includes experience with flying the drone itself, which is paramount for the safety of the public, but also includes experience in operating the cameras and optics. The way that images are photographed, the overlap between those images, the operation speed when images are taken, and other conditions are important for any successful drone aerial photography project.
